Walking With Gog Through Pain And Suffering Book Cover

Walking With God through Pain and suffering
By Timothy Keller
                                Reviewed by Doug Walls

Walking with God through Pain and Suffering is an excellent book.  Tim Keller expertly brings the gospel of Christ into the areas of our life that are so often troubling.  I appreciated the way in which he looked at suffering in an abstract form and then brought the scriptures in by explaining the hope we have in Christ.  He then ended the book well with some practical application and some easy to remember steps. Everyone goes through pain in this life and everyone (especially those in the trenches of pain and suffering) should add this to their collection.
From his chapter entitled Learning to walk Keller pens these words:  “First, suffering transforms our attitude towards ourselves. It humbles us and removes unrealistic self-regard and pride…  Second, suffering will profoundly change our relationship with the good things in our lives.  We will see that some things have become too important to us…. Third, and most of all, Suffering can strengthen our relationship with God as nothing else can.”
I’m thankful that this book was recommended by a friend.  I encourage you to read it and be built up by this explanation of our suffering and God’s remedy, namely, Himself.
